About the event
New research on the economic value of policing to local business will be discussed in an upcoming SEBP webinar, in partnership with the Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser .
The research, from a team led by Professor James Rockey, University of Birmingham, and commissioned by the Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser, finds that each £1 invested in policing yields £10.70 in economic benefits to local businesses and local business areas. It shows how the costs of crime to businesses occur in direct losses, insurance costs, security expenditure and forgone investment, and that a 10% increase in community policing would generate an estimated £7.7 billion a year in additional business output. Join us as we explore what these findings mean for practitioners, and what they suggest about how business viability and local economic health are connected to policing on the ground.
